Café Encounter is located within the operating base for the Dolphin Encounter and Albatross Encounter tours.

It is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast or lunch before or after your tours or perhaps to savor coffee and snacks throughout the day.  The outdoor courtyard is spacious and a picturesque place to relax and unwind enjoying the sun and the spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the magnificent Seaward Kaikoura Mountain range.

The menu is simple, fresh and casual and will accommodate everyone irrespective of dietary requirements and taste.  We focus on sourcing our food within the local area if possible with seafood being a permanent inclusion on the menu.  Delicious seafood chowder, our signature dish, is a popular choice all year round and locally caught crayfish is available in season too!  A cabinet provides a delicious variety of light options and homemade baking with the choices changing daily.

Families are very welcome with a safe play area for them and high chairs provided if required.

Our café kitchen team is led by Peter Morrison originally form Ireland but now regarded as a local!  He has over 20 years’ experience in creating delicious food and he brings creative flair and passion to the café offering.
