We're Anna and Alastair and back in 2015, we had a dream:  to make a relaxed cafe environment that represented everything we loved about New Zealand's culture. The casual vibes, the easy food, the laid back feeling of a New Zealand Summer, and the nostalgia of the classic Kiwi Bach.

With 35 years of experience in hospitality and tourism between us, we moved on from our educational roles at Aoraki Polytechnic and put the dreams into place.

Our goal is to connect customers to our concept by offering a comfortable “bach” environment and quality customer service. Food is our vehicle for conversation, laughter, and memories. When it comes to Al’s cooking, it is a blend of simple bold flavours. We believe in uncomplicated food inspired by quality ingredients and accessible flavours.

The Running Duck opened in January 2016 and started pumping out burgers from day one. The coffee is still flowing and the bacon is still sizzling. But the main ingredients will always be nostalgia and friendly service. We are both so passionate about food, people, and our country New Zealand so come and be a part of this special place and share our dream.
