WHO ARE THE FRESH AIR COALITION TARANAKI?

The Fresh Air Coalition Taranaki are a group of Taranaki organisations who work together to provide strategic leadership and a collaborative approach that will contribute towards a Auahi Kore/Smokefree Taranaki and contribute to the national goal of Smokefree Aotearoa 2025 with specific objectives to:

History of the fresh air project

Fresh Air Projects are up and running across New Zealand, supporting hundreds of venues to go totally smokefree. Originating in Canterbury in 2015, the Fresh Air Project programme started with 20 venues who went smokefree for the 6 month pilot. Since the pilot, several other regions have joined the Fresh Air Project movement including Whangarei, Nelson, Wairarapa, Otago and Southland.

The Fresh Air Project is an initiative supporting hospitality venues to have their outdoor dining areas 100% smokefree and vapefree. Venues will receive free signage and stickers as well as being promoted on the freshairproject.org.nz website.

Smokefree/vapefree outdoor dining areas are becoming more common-place in New Zealand and have significant support among the public. Becoming part of the Fresh Air Project helps to create a healthier , more pleasant environment for staff, customers and whanau to spend their time.

Our goal is to de-normalise smoking and vaping in our communities by making it less visible for tamariki and people trying to quit.

We asked, you answered, and we listened.

When our Taranaki community were surveyed in 2024, 76.5% of people want to live in a Smokefree and Vapefree New Zealand.
